Add tax or extract included tax
Adding tax increases a net price by the chosen rate. Extracting tax divides a gross price by one plus the rate. Subtracting the tax percentage directly from a tax-inclusive price gives a different and usually incorrect result.
Gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100).
Net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100).
Tax = gross − net.
Example: a user-entered 20% rate
A net price of 100 becomes 120 with 20 tax. Starting with an inclusive price of 120 and removing 20% tax returns 100 net and 20 tax. The 20% example is an arithmetic assumption, not a rate recommendation for your location.
Rates and local rules
Enter the appropriate rate yourself. The tool does not look up countries, exemptions, registration thresholds, multiple tax bands, compound taxes, or filing rules. It models one simple percentage applied to one amount, with no currency conversion. Check official guidance for your transaction.
