Elapsed days versus inclusive counting
Elapsed days measure the gap between the dates: January 1 to January 2 is one day. Inclusive counting includes both calendar dates, producing two days. For the same start and end date, elapsed is zero and inclusive is one.
Elapsed days = absolute difference between the two calendar dates.
Inclusive count = elapsed days + 1.
Years, months, and remaining days
The calendar span is separate from the day count. Whole months are counted from the earlier date, clamping month-end dates to the last valid day, then remaining days are added. Because month lengths vary, a year/month/day span is not obtained by dividing total days by a fixed average month length.
Reversed dates and time zones
If the end precedes the start, results show an absolute interval with a note about the order. Dates are calculated without local clock times, avoiding daylight-saving offsets. Inclusive counting changes the total-day count only.
Included days and limits
Weekends and holidays are included. This is not a working-days or legal-deadline calculator. Supported dates use the proleptic Gregorian calendar from year 0001 to 9999, without historical calendar transitions.
